Time for our weekly book review! Today’s featured book is Promises Renewed, by Mary Manners and is part of the Potter’s House collection. I am posting this with the author’s permission. As usual, I will drop in the blurb first.
A heartbreaking secret stands between Brianna and Jackson, and she plans to keep it that way…
When Brianna Caufield hosts an online auction to raise money for her fledgling youth center, the last thing she expects is to be matched for a date with Jackson Reed. Lured by the fame of an NFL career, the hometown hero and all-star quarterback broke off their engagement without so much as a backward glance. Now, washed-up and wiser, Jack’s come home with renewed faith and a changed heart – and he wants Brianna back.
No matter how much she still cares for Jackson, Brianna knows the secret she harbors will destroy any chance of a future together. Can Jack find a way to coax the secret to the surface? And if he does, will forgiveness draw them closer together…or will their love be shattered forever.
And now, my thoughts.
Brianna had enough on her plate. Between managing her organization, Thursday’s Child, and taking care of her nephew, her life was pretty full. The last thing she expected was for first-love, Jackson Reed, to come sauntering back into her life. The last thing she wanted was to admit she never stopped loving him. All Jackson wants is a second chance…the one thing Brianna doesn’t want to give. But Thursday’s Child needs help, and Jackson believes in Brianna’s dream.
I enjoyed the opportunity to read a book that was based in my home state. I am not a big football fan (I’m sorry UT!) but even though Jackson’s career was in the NFL, football does not take center stage in the story and I was glad about that. It was easy to slip into the cadence and plot of the storyline while eagerly anticipating the moment when the big secret comes to light. While both main characters are Christians, they did make mistakes. God’s presence was felt throughout the story as Brianna and Jackson worked their way through their problems and toward a reconciliation. A book about broken promises, lost love, and renewed faith, Promises Renewed will give you all the feels throughout Brianna and Jackson’s journey. When mistakes are made, we always have a choice. We can learn from them, or run from them. Sometimes the running comes first, and the learning later. Mistakes are part of life, what you do with the experience gained from them is up to you.
I truly enjoyed this book. As my first novel by Mary Manners, I will certainly be looking to read more of her work. You can find a link to her book here: Promises Renewed
