After spring’s many trials, Knox County Sheriff Liam McKay is ready for a season of restoration. He needs time to grieve the loss of his grandmother and work on becoming a better husband and father. Liam learned the hard way that life is fragile, and he doesn’t want to miss out on any precious moments.

Emma McKay loves her role as a wife and mother. After she lost her parents, the McKay family became her saving grace. Being married to a police officer brings both challenges and adventures into her life, though, and when something hits on a more personal level, will her past be brought into the light?

Officer Mark MacLaughlin is motivated by two things: his family and his job. Add a beautiful stranger to the mix, and Mark can’t help but want to get to know her better. But when he takes on fatherhood for a three-year-old girl, he has to learn how to blur the lines between his personal and professional life too.

Evangeline Taylor was on the way to confront her past, until her plans came to a grinding halt. Now injured and stranded in a tiny Nebraska town, Eva’s heart opens up. The town, the people, and maybe one handsome police officer in particular help her to heal…but will they be enough to make her stay?

Excerpt from Healing Their Hearts

“Miss Taylor.”

Eva spun around, swallowing when she looked up into the face of Mark MacLaughlin. “Hey.”

Really? That’s all you can say?

The corners of his gray-blue eyes crinkled, and he slipped his capable hands into the pockets of his slacks. “I was hoping I’d see you here today.”

“You were?” she squeaked. This time she didn’t even bother to chastise herself. She was working hard enough trying to keep the flush out of her face.

“I was, yes.” He paused, hesitated for a moment. “Miss Taylor, I’d like to introduce you to a couple people, if you wouldn’t mind. Service doesn’t start for another twenty minutes or so.”

“Oh, um, I—”

“Go ahead,” Emma urged, her smile no doubt trying to mask her worry about her husband. “We’ll save a spot for you in the pew.”

Mark offered his arm, and Eva slipped her hand into the crook of his elbow. She noticed for the first time the distinct height difference between them, and how he shortened his otherwise long stride to accommodate for her. His bicep filled out his gray polo nicely, too. Not that she’d noticed for any other reason than a common observation.

“Miss Taylor, this is my younger sister Sam,” Mark said, nodding to a pretty blonde conversing with the man Eva recognized as the town police chief from the scene. “Sam, this is Evangeline Taylor.”

The woman turned, a readymade smile on her lips. “Nice to meet you, Miss Taylor. I’ve heard about you from my brother here. All good things, of course.”

The flush rising in Mark’s cheeks probably paled in comparison to Eva’s. “P-please, call me Eva. Miss Taylor makes me sound old.”

Sam laughed. “Try Miss MacLaughlin. Or Samantha MacLaughlin.”

“I’m the only person other than her mama who gets to call her Samantha,” Braeden said, his smile teasing but not carefree. “She loves me for it.”

“He wishes.” Sam regarded Eva. “How’re you doing after the collision? I was off that day, but these two filled me in.”

“You’re a cop too?” Eva asked.

Sam nodded. “For almost nine years. I’ve worked with my brother and Braeden since day one. We were with a state patrol unit out in North Platte until last fall. We all needed to come home. Well, Braeden’s family—the Langfords—have a ranch outside of town. His grandpa is the pastor at this church. Our family is in Plainview.” Then, softly, she added, “Some of them.”

As if sensing the mood change, Mark cleared his throat. “So, Eva, has anyone talked to you about BerryPepper Days yet?”

She squinted up at him. “Berry-what days?”
