Secrets Come in Every Shade
After the introduction of Yellow magic in a society accustomed to only Red and Blue magic, the world inside the barrier has become more complicated than anyone imagined. Ava, Elm, and the former students of Prism navigate life in hiding. They face discord, secrets, betrayal, and danger that looms ever closer as the Benefactors narrow in on their hideaway.
Ava is determined to keep everyone protected, even at the cost of her own safety. She explores dangerous aspects of her new Mentalist abilities—against Elm’s dire warnings.
Tensions escalate when a new visitor arrives claiming to know a way out of the barrier. While this may be the only way to escape the Benefactors, what awaits them on the outside? Will they gain allies or make an entirely new set of enemies?

Author Interview:
What makes your main characters tick?
I’d say both Ava and Elm are
heavily motivated by a desire to do the right thing. Neither of them
really asked to be thrown into what they’re facing, but they knew they
couldn’t simply look the other way, either.
Are you working on your next book already? What can you tell us?
I’m working hard on Book 3 for the Color Theory series, which will be
turned in to the publisher before Radiant’s release! It has been a very
emotional journey, and the third book is definitely the most intense of
the three.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I love to be outdoors
when the weather is nice. I used to draw a lot and I’m starting to get
back into that. It’s very relaxing. And of course, I like to pick up a
book whenever I can!
When did you write your first book? Is that first one published?
This is a complicated question! I’ve been writing stories for a long time so I guess it depends on how we’re defining “first book.” I wrote a picture book that was published in 2012 as well as several books for a social curriculum used in a university research project. Vivid was the first novel I was serious about publishing, although I wrote a novella
length story when I was 18 (and it was horrible). That one will
probably never see the light of day!
How long, on average, does it take you to write a book?
I wrote the first draft of Vivid in about a month, but that was before I had kids. It was probably about 6 months for the first draft of Radiant and 7 for
the third book. Revising, of course, takes a lot longer.
About the Author

Ashley Bustamante has created stories from the moment she could scribble and staple sheets of paper together. She simply cannot recall a time when writing was not a force in her life. When not running through lines of dialogue in her mind, she enjoys taking photographs and spending time with her husband, three children, and any furry, feathered, or scaly creature she can find.
More from Ashley
When I originally wrote Vivid, book one in The Color Theory series, I wasn’t sure if the story would continue. But it had to, didn’t it? Without spoiling anything, Vivid ends in a place where things are really just beginning, and that’s where Radiant takes the stage. What does coming together really look like? What does it take for a group of diverse people to unite? Radiant explores the strength that grows from working together and overcoming differences. It doesn’t come naturally to everyone, and our characters have a lot to learn. I hope you’ll enjoy Radiant!
