To say this book blew me away is an understatement. I was terrified for Sam. Seeing him through Annie’s fears was gut-wrenching. Like her, I wanted to believe that Sam would be okay, but I never quite knew for certain. Janyre Tromp writes with amazing style. I loved her prose and the way she pulled me into the setting with her descriptions. There was a lyrical tempo to the reading that kept the tension high and never let me forget what was at stake. The story itself is certainly of a darker nature and one that you don’t see often, but I absolutely fell head over heels in love with. Light shines through the broken things might be my all-time favorite line. In the moments when it seemed like all hope was lost, and there was more than one moment, light shone through. Either through Rosie or through the setting itself, the darkness never quite became overwhelming. This is a book I’ll read again and again. I received a copy of this book from the publisher through I Read with Audra. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
