How do you gain your sense of worth and significance? Career? Kids? Marriage? Finances? Living in a culture where your achievements define you makes you prey to attacks on your very identity. But God values you regardless of your wins and losses and provides the tools in His Word to help you win the battle and rebuild your identity on His truth as you walk with Him into your purpose.

Born achiever Micah Ruth found herself questioning her value during a career demotion and personal crisis. Feeling like a failure and questioning her every move, Micah began listening to God as He led her to make major life changes and reassess the source of her worth. Through exploring the book of Ephesians, Micah uncovered the lies that held her captive and broke the self-inflicted chains of shame to ultimately experience deep soul transformation.

Micah weaves her story as inspiration for you to embark on your own journey of freedom and discovery. Devotionals, journal questions, and practical application prompts provide opportunities for you to remove your armor of self-reliance, grow in your faith, and reflect on your story. You Are Loved & Free also includes resources to help you discover your gifts and purpose while you cling to your newfound identity as a beloved and free child of God.

Author Interview:

If you could tell your younger writing self-anything, what would it be?

Writing is a skill that is mastered with time not an ‘you have it or you don’t’. If you have the desire to write, than you are a writer who may just need to hone their skills.

How many unpublished or half-finished novels do you have?

I have another devotional journal in the works right now. I also have a Christian fiction that I started.

Do you think you’ll ever complete all of them?

I will definitely finish the devotional journal. The call from God on this one is strong and I am writing it really for my own spiritual growth. It remains to be seen if I will write Christian fiction, but I hope I do.

Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?

Yes. All of what I write for the devotionals is revelations from God to me when He is transforming my heart. Most of my writing happens on a trail (biking and hiking) as I wrestle through what God is trying to teach me in whatever particular trial I am in.  I ask questions, pedal and cry out my laments, and usually hear the answer somewhere near the top of the trail after I have expended my lament. When God starts to speak to me, I start writing it down in my phone notes app. These turn into devotionals, books, Bibl studies. I also write my prayers to God each morning. For me this is how I keep my focus on God instead and what He has to talk with me about. These are private and I rarely share them with anyone.

Do you have a writing schedule? Specific time of day or hours per day that you write?

Sort of. I know that I am going to write on the trail, so I go out there a lot in search of answers. But is not a regimented schedule. I do try and “finish” the pieces on a regular basis such as in the evenings, or Saturday mornings. I also have a full-time corporate job and three kids, so writing happens when I make time.

What did you edit out of your book?

There was one section that I wrote that I thought would go in the book, but may in fact appear in another book entirely. It was a good teaching –that I hard to learn in my own failed circumstance, but it was not related to the message on identity.

 What makes a book successful?

In non-fiction, I think it is vulnerability. I love learning when I am reading one that I am not alone. Once I feel like this person gets me, then I can learn from them.

What was the most challenging aspect of your latest novel?

I had to walk through each of the lessons that God was teaching me to write about them. It was a soul transformation for me. I remember even saying one time to God, with a light heart, “must I always be my own test case? I like all that I am learning and it certainly turns into great teaching that I hope to pass on to others, but I am certainly tired of the hardships my brokenness causes me”

More from Micah
