How much will it take to cross A Distance Too Grand?

About the Book:

Title: A Distance Too Grand

Author: Regina Scott

Genre: Historical Christian Romance

Release Date: October 1, 2019

Meg Pero has been assisting her photographer father since she was big enough to carry his equipment, so when he dies she is determined to take over his profession–starting with fulfilling the contract he signed to serve on an Army survey of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in 1871. What she doesn’t realize is that the leader of the expedition is none other than the man she once refused to marry.

Captain Ben Coleridge would like nothing more than to leave without the woman who broke his heart, but he refuses to wait even one more day to get started. This survey is a screen for another, more personal mission, one he cannot share with any member of his team.

As dangers arise from all sides, including within the survey party, Meg and Ben must work together to stay alive, fulfill their duties, and, just maybe, rekindle a love that neither had completely left behind.

Book Review:

As an amateur photographer, I fell in love with this book. Seeing the world through Meg’s eyes, watching as she took her place with a bold stance and encouraging outlook brought A Distance Too Grand to life. Learning about photography through Meg, understanding how photography has grown over the years, gave me a new appreciation for the artistry of those who have gone before us. And that’s just the photography.

From a romantic and spiritual aspect, A Distance Too Grand was heartfelt and beautiful. Meg and Ben have had feelings for one another for a long time, and this expedition will put them close to each other once again. Will love win out over perceived expectations?

At some point, we’ve all likely had moments like Ben and Meg where we felt we were not good enough. Whether it was society or family who made us feel this way, there is only one who’s opinion matters more than our own. That opinion is God’s.

I love that the author took salvation seriously and brought along characters who believed and some who didn’t believe. As Meg learns more about Ben, she also learns more about God. Although I did not find a specific moment where Meg asked forgiveness and turned over her life to God, the emotion was there on the page, making the transition believable.

The expedition through the Grand Canyon made me feel as though I was seeing it myself. With vivid imagery and beautiful descriptions, A Distance Too Grand was a masterpiece of adventure and proved that no distance is too grand for God…or love.

I requested a copy of this book from Revell Reads. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
