And now, time for the interview!
What’s the inspiration behind your writing?
My writing ideas come randomly from all over the place. Always, it’s a character that comes to me and begs me to tell a story. Not just a story of romance, but a story of restoration, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Even in reading, I am drawn to those kinds of characters and stories. Give me a broken hero and I’m all over reading it. I love showing the world through story, that we have a God who can mend brokenness, forgive, and restore.
Do you have a favorite author or book?
I love Hallee Bridgeman’s romance and romantic suspense novels. I’m also a big fan of Amanda Tru, (romantic suspense) and Becky Wade (But who isn’t these days? She’s just fabulous)
How have you surprised yourself during your writing journey?
I have challenged the ways in which I used to write, in order to improve my craft. In the very beginning, I always perceived character building to be extremely difficult when I first began, and now it’s one of my favorite aspects of writing. Because I have found I love love love character driven stories.
What book are you reading for fun? Are you reading anything for research?
I haven’t read anything in a while. My kindle broke, and I’ve been super busy with life. I have actually been focusing more on reading my bible. Every book I read, non-fiction or fiction, I treat as a tool in research.
If you could sit down with three authors for dinner, who would they be, and what would you discuss?
I would love to meet Francine Rivers. Such a renown romance author. I’d ask her how in the world she does it, where does she get her ideas, and how did she get her first big break? What’s changed for her, and how has she adapted?
I would love to meet Karen Kingsbury and ask her what inspires her books, and how she writes through such difficult topics? How did she get her first big break? What has changed, and how has she adapted?
I would also love to meet Nora Roberts, and sort of maybe, argue with her?? Is that bad? Lol. I’d love to talk about what makes a story a romance, and why she chooses to write what she writes. I’d love to know where she gets her ideas. How did she get her big break? How have things changed, and how has she adapted?
Can you think of anything you wish you’d known before writing?
I wish I’d known more about marketing. Marketing is hard and never ending. I did research before I chose to pursue publishing, but I wish I’d done more.
What is next for you as an author?
I am currently revising my third book in my Second Chance Novel series, as well as I am finishing and revising another separate work in progress (also a romance)
I’m also maybe perhaps kind of considering pursuing a Masters in Creative Writing. Time will tell…
