We are all disciples, sometimes, even The Reluctant Disciple

Book Blurb:

Ryan Kates is a paranormal expert, TV host, and skeptic. He hosts News4th, a nationally popular cable show focused on UFOs, ghosts, and everything that goes bump in the night. Ryan is used to dealing with the weird and unexplainable, but when bizarre paranormal phenomena rock the planet he finds himself questioning his long-held views.

As these phenomena escalate, mass hysteria and political tensions begin to mount on a global scale. The world begins to spin out of control, and a former flame reenters Ryan’s life, bringing her family along for the ride. The pawns are moved into place, and Ryan must confront the ultimate evil on the world stage, culminating in a supernatural encounter far beyond his wildest dreams.

The Reluctant Disciple establishes a credible connection between End Times biblical prophecy and our society’s fascination with the paranormal, taking readers on a thrill ride they won’t soon forget.

Book Review:

An end-times novel that will leave you spellbound.

I don’t often read end-of-days fiction simply because the book of Revelations is scary enough without adding more to the story. I enjoy reading them, but I have to stagger genres. I have to give credit to The Reluctant Disciple. I had goosebumps during the first half of the story since it begins with stories of demon possession, hauntings, and thousands of disappearances. The last half is more focused on the end-of-days aspect as the characters begin to realize what’s really going on.

I can’t say I completely agree with everything in The Reluctant Disciple. But that’s okay. Everyone has their own ideas on how things will happen. I appreciated the depth of multiple characters with deep perspective and vast descriptions. I cannot recommend this book for everyone, but if you were a fan of the Left Behind series, you’ll probably like The Reluctant Disciple.

The added romance aspect often kept the supernatural points from overwhelming the reader’s senses. While Ryan was a skeptic at first, the moment he began to understand and believe what he was seeing had a powerful impact. I’m not kidding about the goosebumps. Jim O’Shea knows how to construct a novel filled with slowly revealed secrets while making you wish you’d waited till daylight to start reading.

As the book progresses, Ryan is headed toward receiving the one thing he’s always thought he wanted, he gets to interview a man who is for all intents and purposes, the most important man on the planet. Ryan will have to make a decision. He will have to choose a side. We are all disciples, but are we disciples for God or for the devil?
